PASSÉ tactics of luring Internet users to give out personal information by saying they’ve won in a lottery, sending pleas to transfer large sums of cash in a bank account in order to help a friend, or making a payment to collect a parcel, now all sound too familiar.

Still, online thieves will never run out of methods to fleece netizens (habitual users of the Internet or active participants in online communities) and victimize them, using a bait, and steal their identities.

“Cybercriminals are getting more sophisticated to dupe online users. They use fake web sites and online advertisements to steal not only money, but also reputation,” David Hall, regional consumer product marketing manager of Symantec Asia-Pacific, told the BusinessMirror.
